Not waiting for dark,
when merging is effortless,
involuntary —
clouds, hills, and fields reach across
quiet gaps and outstretched space.

Both the pic and tanka are stunning!
Thank you so much. That was my first tanka, and since then. Have always done them as a pair with a photograph. It has been a good experience for me. Thank you for visiting, be well~
I like the contrast set up at the beginning (I’m talking the words here, not the photo): the difference between sitting with eyes shut (‘easy’ to get into some groove) and eyes open
Thanks for visiting again. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of your comments. I really enjoyed writing this for the opportunity to contrast, what is done with ease and what we have no choice in; what is a small & easily spanned space and at the same time incomprehensibly distant.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment. I struggled with the how to finish the poem before settling on “outstretched” – in part because it was more open…more hopeful. Be well~
